Archives September 2006

Since tuesday, things have really speeded up. We harvested the syrah of our Vinsobres vineyards and also the Grenache in Beaucastel, Vacqueyras and Gigondas as well as some more Roussanne in Beaucastel. A video should come shortly (sorry for the delay). We will harvest also tomorrow and certainly sunday since we believe that the maturity of the Grenache are just perfect now. All the week the weather as been fantastic, we feel like beeing in the middle of summer.

It rained about 40 millimeters on sunday. Monday morning the north wind (mistral) started to blow strongly under a nice sun and dried the grapes. We did not harvest until tuesday when we picked the grenache grapes of our Côtes-du-Rhône Perrin Réserve. This vine is located in front of the Domaine du Grand Prébois which is also the winery of Perrin & Fils.

In Beaucastel, we will wait a few more days before picking the Grenache. Our feeling is that this should allow us to pick the grapes at perfect ripeness.

On Friday we started harvesting some Grenache of our Chateauneuf du Pape Perrin & Fils les Sinards. These vineyards are located inside the walls that surround the castel of the popes which is now in ruins (have a look at the video below). We will not harvest during the week-end because we are waiting some extra ripeness.

The weather is still very nice, warm and dry. The mistral stopped and south wind is now blowing... conditions continue to be outstanding.
We have harvested some syrah today and also most of the white grapes.
We will certainly start harvesting some Grenache tomorrow in the Coudoulet and Perrin & Fils vineyards.

In the video below Matthieu Perrin does a 'pigeage' (cap-punching) on the first tanks of Syrah.

Cap-punching means pushing the solid part of the grapes, which has floated to the top of each tank, down onto the liquid part. This enables one to extract tannins and colour due to increased contact between skin and juice.

The weather has been wonderful these last two days with a lot of Mistral yesterday and much less today.
We are continuing the harvest of the Syrah grape both in Beaucastel and in Gigondas.

After a couple of days of rain at the end of last week, the mistral started blowing strongly on sunday, cleaned the sky and dried the grapes.
Today (monday) the weather is also very nice and windy... these are ideal conditions.
We started the red grapes by harvesting the Cinsault of Coudoulet de Beaucastel and the first Syrah .

In the beggining of the small video below, Pierre Perrin does a final maturity check before we start the harvest of the syrah.

In the 'hedonist gazette', Robert Parker just rated Hommage 2000 a nice 100 points.

Today we have harvested the Roussanne in Beaucastel. We think we will start some red grapes next week. Another small video is below with no comments (but you can leave yours). The Roussanne are very nice by the way.
